Cyprus is a country located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea which has a total area of 9,250 square kilometers, making it the third biggest island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily and Sardinia. If you are wondering how the name Cyprus come from, the Greek word for Cyprus is Kypros, which means copper. It was named as such because in the ancient time, there was big copper trading in this area.

Paphos / Coral Bay area
From its location, Cyprus gets its warm and dry climate. This country is known to have long summer and very short winter. The most popular period to visit Cyprus is between March until June and September until October because at that time, the visitors can enjoy the warm weather between 25 to 30 degree Celsius, while during July and August the temperature might be as high as 40 degree Celsius.

Languages that the Cypriots use are Greek and Turkish. The North Cyprus uses Turkish, which is similar with the Turkish in the Turkey mainland, and the South Cyprus uses Greek for their daily conversation. You don’t need to get yourself busy in learning the language when you are planning to visit Cyprus, though. Many people in Cyprus are able to speak English so you can easily communicate with the Cypriots.

There are variety of flora and fauna in this country. When you do hiking activities on the mountains, you will notice some Aleppo pine trees, Oak, and also several kinds of cedar. On the lower area, you can find cypresses, locust trees, and olive trees. If you visit Cyprus during the spring season, you will see wide variety of flowers like orchids, irises, cyclamen, poppies, anemones, peonies, buttercups, and also asphodel.

The fauna world also offers some diversity. The mouflon is probably something you should see because you will never find this animal outside Cyprus. It looks like a goat but bigger. Beside that, there are foxes, weasels, rabbits, hares, snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, chameleons, different kinds of bats, birds, and butterflies.
